Having
lived for three years in Bangkok, we have had the opportunity
of seeing a little bit of the country - as always Ian's work, and our normal schedules,
meant we probably didn't see as much as we could have. None the less, we
can show some of the tours and sightseeing we have done - just click on
highlights
below or go to the Photo
Gallery page.
Our latest trip was during our Asia Tour
in October 2005, when we spent a few relaxing days at a
beachside Spa Resort in Pranburi, just South of Hua Hin - see more
below.
- Bangkok - A few
highlights of interesting things to do, places to see, how to get
around, living accomodation, etc, etc.
- Hua Hin - About 3 hours drive
south-west of Bangkok brings you to the royal seaside resort town of
Hua Hin - a great place for a relaxing break from the big city and
perfect for families. Pranburi Town is another 30 minutes South of Hua
Hin. This is an upcoming beachside resort area with many excellent Spa
Resorts.
- Koh Samui - A
tropical paradise island directly south of Bangkok, take a Bangkok
Airways flight for an hour or so and then head straight for the beach
- we always go to Bophut Beach and our favourite resort of Peace
Resort Bungalows.
- Chiang Mai -
Drive north, or take a direct flight for 45 minutes
and you will be in a different land, check out the Golden Triangle,
the local tribe villages and the hills and jungle.

The city that grows on you.
We lived here for around 3 years while Ian was working on the new MRTA
Subway Project which opened in 2005 - for photos in and around Bangkok -

Always a favourite location
to spend a relaxing holiday - about 3 hours drive south-west of Bangkok
on a good highway. Hua Hin is the summer home of the royal family with
several palaces in the area. It has a more family style atmosphere to
it, with a good variety of hotels, restaurants, sports and sightseeing
activities. The small market style shops and evening markets are also a
major attraction. Just half an
hour south of Hua Hin is Pranburi - a small coastal area that is quickly
developing into a quiet and peaceful getaway with a variety of quality
spa resorts. The beachside here is unspoiled and the resorts are
generally in classic or modern Thai / Balinese style architecture that
blends with the surrounding environment. For Photos of our visit to
Pranburi in October 2005 -
see here. |
  A Tropical Paradise With
SARS raging in Taiwan during 2003, we decided to take a break off to Thailand, packing our
swimsuits and going back to Peace Bungalow Resort on the northern side of Koh
Samui. Peace Bungalow sits right on one of the best stretches of beach in Samui
at Bophut Beach, has terrific chalets and wonderful staff to look after their
guests. Recent improvements have been made, including a newly-opened Spa Resort
across the road. A great holiday for 7 days and as usual we would highly
recommend a stay at peace Bungalow for those who have yet to travel to Samui. |
