Born & Bred in Scotland
Ian
was born and brought up in the Provanhall district of
Easterhouse which was a new council estate built in the late
1950's on the East side of Glasgow. This was right out on the
edge of the countryside where modern urban development and
living conditions were considered a great improvement on the
tenement areas where the previous generations lived (or
suffered). The Macfarlane family
consisted of Mum & Dad, older brother George and younger
sister Christine. Read more
of growing up in Provanhall by clicking the Provanhall picture to the left.
The
Macfarlane family tree includes the large extended Meers family from Bridgeton (Mother's
side) and a smaller Macfarlane bunch (Father's side) from Dundas
area. For some history of the Family background, click the
Family Tree button to the left.
The
family name is traced back to the Macfarlane Clan whose lands
are located in the West Highlands of Scotland at the heads of
Loch Long and Loch Lomond. Read
