Visit Mojacar

Mojacar is located in the South East picturesque coast of Spain in the Almeria province which is one of the lesser developed of the Costas.

Airports serving the region are Almeria approx 45 mins drive, Alicante and Murcia under 2 hours away. The Costa de Almeria is largely unspoilt with summers starting before Easter and lasting well into November making this a good choice for off season holidays as well as your traditional summer destination. It is also an excellent location for golf breaks.

Mojacar is an engaging, beautiful and romantic corner of Spain, perched high on a hill white washed houses, cool courtyards and cobbled streets overlooking the sea and long sandy beaches. A focal point for artists and writers throughout the ages, Mojacar with its Moorish appearance and commanding views will fascinate, beguile and completely captivate you.

Mojacar is ancient in origin and Arabic in appearance. Mojacar is almost unique, nestled on a hillside in the Sierra Cabrera mountains, the dazzling white Moorish dwellings cluster together overlooking steep, narrow alleyways draped in bougainvillaea. The village is said to have a history that can be traced back to 2000 B.C. The views from the Plaza Mirador Nueva are quite spectacular.

Just a couple of miles below the village, is the very different world of Mojacar Playa. Here you will find a modern beach resort, which boasts miles of sand and plenty of beach bars, restaurants and shops. Aimed at the leisure-minded tourist, the resort has a relaxed pace as well as pleasing views of the sea, hilly countryside and the mountains beyond. You will not find high rise buildings, all night bars and clubs in this resort. If you prefer a relaxed, fun, peaceful holiday in an area of outstanding natural beauty, beautiful beaches and enjoy quality food, Mojacar is for you. Mojacar is undoubtedly the most cosmopolitan place in the whole region.

Along the coast, there are more than 5kms of beach front (many having been awarded the EEC blue flag for cleanliness), notably there are 12km of virgin beaches and coves which reach to the borders of the Cabo de Gata natural park.

Whether it is sailing, fishing, bowling, tennis, golf or watersports that take your fancy or simply relaxing on an uncrowded beach soaking up the sun, you will find it all and more in and around Mojacar.

The beach is 17 kilometres long and a large part of which is a designated area of natural beauty. Only 7 kilometres is developed and is so unspoiled that within this stretch there are no less than 3 Blue European Flag Awards on the beaches for cleanliness. Mojacar is a unique blend of mountains and valley areas sheltering the beach and the sea.

17 kilometres of coastline with sandy beaches shelving gently towards the sea and varying from wide to fairly narrow, with rocky outcrops in places. For the most part, it is less developed than some, with plenty of space to enjoy, though small clusters of sun loungers and shades dot its length. Development tends to be clustered around the wider sections. Palmer Rumina Beach nearby and Garrucha beach have received the European blue flag. Various water sports (including windsurfing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, pedalloes and banana-boat rides) are available. The Water Park at Vera playa is also only a 10 min drive away and is an excellent family day out.
